Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, also called a nose job, is a type of plastic surgery that changes the shape or size of the nose. Many people choose rhinoplasty to improve breathing, fix injuries, or make their nose look more balanced with their face.

Where Are the Scars?

There are two main types of rhinoplasty:

  • Closed rhinoplasty: Cuts (incisions) are made inside the nose, so scars are hidden.

  • Open rhinoplasty: A small cut is made across the skin between the nostrils (the columella). This scar usually heals well and is hard to see.

Differences in Technique for Men vs. Women

  • Women: Surgeons often focus on creating a softer, more delicate nose with a gentle curve. Many women want a smaller tip or a slightly lifted bridge for a feminine look.

  • Men: Surgeons usually aim for a straighter, stronger nose with a more defined bridge. Men often prefer a nose that looks natural and masculine without too much narrowing.

Why People Choose Rhinoplasty

  • Improve breathing

  • Fix broken or crooked noses

  • Change nose size or shape

  • Boost self-confidence and facial harmony

How long is recovery after rhinoplasty?

Recovery from rhinoplasty surgery usually takes about 1 to 2 weeks for most daily activities. Swelling can last several months, and the final nose shape may take up to a year to fully appear. Following your surgeon’s instructions helps speed healing and protect scars.

Is rhinoplasty safe?

Like all surgeries, rhinoplasty (a nose job) has risks. For this reason, it is important to choose a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive training and experience in rhinoplasty surgery like Dr. Poppler. The risks are small but are higher in people with certain medical conditions such as smoking, poor nutrition, auto-immune diseases, bleeding disorders, or diseases that require the use of blood thinning medications. Dr. Poppler will carefully review your risk factors with you at your consultation and help you modify these where possible to make your surgery as safe as possible. At Treasure Valley Plastic Surgery, your safety is our number one priority, and all surgical prices include an insurance plan to help pay for care related to any complications.
